Founder/ Head Literacy Specialist
Elisa Levy
Elisa is a Literacy Specialist with over 17 years of experience in K-8 classrooms. She has spent her career bridging the gap between complicated research and the real-world results parents need to feel confident supporting their kids. She is a certified educator and reading specialist that has completed training in dyslexia through Yale, trained on Orton-Gillingham methodologies, and is endorsed to support multilingual readers. A pivotal moment, being encouraged to teach reading interventions to middle school, ignited Elisa's passion. That spark led her to pursue her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction, Reading and ESL and a certification in Youth Mental Health First -Aid. She is a National Blue Ribbon School educator that has taught first, third, and fifth grades and is now a dedicated Reading Specialist.
Who We Are
At Word Waves Literacy, we believe every child can ride the wave of reading success. Our mission is personal, rooted in a powerful insight: literacy is complex, but the struggle doesn't have to define the child.
We believe in connecting high-level, brain-based literacy instruction with a strong social-emotional learning (SEL) lens. We transform learning environments. Yes, we even have plush animal friends in our methods!—to make acquiring literacy skills a supportive, joyful, and exciting adventure for diverse young learners. Word Waves Literacy is a place where we can connect, grow, and transform literacy together.
The idea for Word Waves Literacy was born from a simple observation: a child’s confusion over the single word "wave" while reading. This motivated us to dig deeper, learn more, and through that curiosity, we realized reading is an intricate puzzle where context changes everything, but if you do not know how to decode, reading is extremely difficult.
But, regardless, here’s what we know: every student is already paddling. They are never starting from scratch. This ignited a lifelong curiosity: How exactly does the brain learn to read?
